Our story
Thicket Adventure was born from a love of the outdoors and a frustration with how few apparel and gear options actually fit plus size bodies like ours.
It started on a trail. Founders Kara and Arwen met out hiking and bonded over the same problem: almost nothing they could buy was made for the bodies they had. So they set out to make something that was, starting with a pant that actually fits.
We design with intention so every body can feel powerful, prepared, and free outside. Whether you're exploring local trails, heading out to brunch, or venturing into the backcountry to chase a summit, our gear is built to come with you.

Meet the Founders
Arwen Turner
Arwen is a fat outdoors enthusiast who plans to change the world by making apparel and gear for all the fat outdoorsy (and future fat outdoorsy) people out there.
With over 20 years of experience in nonprofit leadership and fund development, Arwen is also a recognized voice in outdoor equity and inclusion work in Vermont. Arwen loves swimming in lakes, shady trails, and celebrating Halloween year-round.
Kara Hardman
Kara aspires to create space for healing in our world. First as a construction project manager building hospitals, and now as a co-founder making outdoor apparel for the bodies the industry forgot.
In March 2019, she climbed Kilimanjaro with the Cury Kili Crew, a group of plus size hikers. That trip made it impossible to ignore: the outdoor world wasn't making gear for bodies like hers, and somebody had to.
When she's not building Thicket, you can find her exploring Vermont with her dog.

We work alongside our communities to celebrate and expand access for fat folks, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, adventurers with disabilities, older humans, and anyone who’s ever been told they don’t “belong” outside.
Community as a Superpower
Something magical happens when fat people adventure together. Confidence grows, shame dissolves, and belonging thrives. Thicket is more than gear, it’s a space to belong.

Outdoorsy has endless shapes. For some it’s summiting mountains, for others it’s napping under a tree. However you connect with nature is real, valid, and worth celebrating. Outdoor joy is your right, and Thicket exists to celebrate that.
